Welcome to the programme and please find enclosed oversight of days 1 to 4:
Day 1: Focus on number, ratio, proportion and rates of change.
This will be a tutor led course focussing on the content of the National Curriculum including number, ratio, proportion and rates of change. It will consider the hierarchy of the subject content and focus on developing students’ fluency and the precise use of mathematical language and properties. The session will also look at lesson planning and where to find useful resources for the mathematics classroom.
Day 2: Focus on probability and statistics
This will be a tutor led course focussing on the content of the National Curriculum including probability and statistics. It will consider the hierarchy of the subject content and explore what can and cannot be inferred in statistical and probabilistic settings as well as assessing the validity of an argument and the accuracy of a given way of presenting information. The session will also look at common errors and misconceptions and share ways in which such difficulties might be overcome.
Day 3: Focus on geometry and geometrical proofs
This will be a tutor led course focussing on the content of the National Curriculum including geometry and geometrical proofs. It will consider the hierarchy of the subject content and explore how to support students to use geometry and construct geometrical proofs from first principals. The session will also focus on the reasoning strand of the National Curriculum and identify ways in which this can be promoted in the classroom.
Day 4: Focus on algebra and algebraic proofs
This will be a tutor led course focussing on the content of the National Curriculum including algebra and algebraic proofs. It will consider the hierarchy of the subject content and explore how to support students in offering mathematical proofs. The session will also focus on problem solving with a review of the different curriculum pathways in mathematics including post 16.
